On Nov. 15, 1956, Elvis was huge. Really, huge!

Nov. 15th of that year was the New York premiere of Elvis Presley’s first movie, “Love Me Tender.” It premiered at New York’s Paramount Theater. A fifty-foot cardboard cutout of Elvis was placed outside the theater to promote the movie.

Elvis’ popularity had grown so large during the filming on the movie that his part, which was originally only a cameo, was expanded to fit his stardom.

Before the release, they took the movie to test audiences. When his character is killed at the end of the movie, the test audiences were so distraught that the producers had Elvis re-appears at the end of the movie to reprise the title song.

Yes, Elvis was huge 61 years ago today. We wonder what ever happened to that cutout?
