In 1967, The Buckinghams scored hits with the songs “Kind of a Drag”, “Don’t You Care”, “Mercy, Mercy, Mercy”, “Hey Baby (They’re Playing Our Song)” and “Susan”. Billboard named them “The most listened to band in America” for 1967.

50 years ago tonight, on Nov. 17, 1967, The Buckinghams were playing a concert at Shawnee Mission South High School in Overland Park, Kansas. It promised to be a great show.

The opening band was just staring their new tour at this show. Their first tour of the U.S., they opened for Herman’s Hermits and they were ready to start their second tour.

The opening band was from England. They were called “The Who”.

This show would qualify for a “Way Back Machine” trip!
