Here is yet another one of those 50 years ago things…

Jimi Hendrix / The Jimi Hendrix Experience released their 2nd LP “Axis: Bold as Love” in the UK on Dec.1, 1967. It was recorded to fulfill the Experience’s contract, which stated that they must produce two records in 1967. It was the follow-up to the band’s successful debut Are You Experienced, which had been released months earlier in May. It was not sold in the United States until 1968 because of the record company’s fears that it might disturb the sales of the first album. “Axis: Bold as Love” reached number five in the UK and number three in the US.

One night before the album was completed, Hendrix took the master tapes of side one home with him. Almost. Jimi left the tapes in the taxi he was riding in. They were never found again, leaving chief engineer of the LP, Eddie Kramer to have to remix it again quickly.

Did this LP have the same effect on you as his first LP “Are You Experienced”?

Happy 50th Birthday to “Axis: Bold as Love”!!
