The Monkees had a very good day on Dec. 2, 1967. Their new single “Daydream Believer” became the #1 song on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and their new album “Pisces, Aquarius, Capricorn & Jones Ltd” was at the #1 spot on the Billboard Album chart.

1967 was a great year for The Monkees record sales wise. Their first LP “The Monkees” was the #1 album for the first 5 weeks of the year (and the last 8 weeks of 1966). Their 2nd album “More Of The Monkees” then knocked the first LP out when it became the next #1 album for the next 18 weeks. Herb Alpert’s album “Sounds Like” took over the #1 spot for one week and then The Monkees’ “Headquarters” went to #1 for one week until it was knocked out of the top spot by The Beatles’ album “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band” which would stay on top until Oct. 7th. The ‘Pisces” album became #1 on Dec. 2.

In 1967, The Monkees spend a total of 29 weeks with the #1 album on the Billboard Album Charts.

However, spending that much time on top, Billboard named The Buckinghams the most listened to band of 1967.

50 years ago today, The Monkees were on top. When is the last time you listened to a full album by them?

And here is “Daydream Believer’ for your listening pleasure.

*Update* Here was the clear HD tv version of the Daydream Believer music video. Many ask where is the HD now, when this video was uploaded years ago on here …
