The Who released their debut LP “My Generation” in the UK on Dec. 3, 1965. The album wasn’t released in the US until April of 1966 with a different cover and the name of the record was changed to “The Who Sings My Generation”. Of course the US version had a slightly altered track listing. The UK version had the guys standing by some oil barrels whereas the US version had them standing in front of Big Ben in London.

The album was made immediately after The Who got their first singles on the charts. The album was later dismissed by the band as something of a rush job that did not accurately represent their stage performance of the time. On the other hand, critics often rate it as one of the best rock albums of all time.

How many of you have the original UK release in your collection?

Happy 52nd Birthday to the “My Generation” LP!!
