The Yardbirds released their debut LP “Five Live Yardbirds” in the UK on Dec.4, 1964. It was a live album recorded at London’s infamous Marquee Club.

Many of the songs on the album including “I’m a Man” and “Here Tis” feature a “rave up”, an instrumental interlude which starts low and builds to a climax. “I’m a Man” was later recorded with Jeff Beck on lead guitar.

The Yardbirds guitarist Eric Clapton credits the rave up to bassist Paul Samwell-Smith. The use of the “rave up” is evident in the fact that the songs “Smokestack Lighting”, “Respectable”, “I’m a Man”, and “Here ‘Tis” appear on the US release Having a Rave Up”.

How many of you have this LP in your collection and, when is the last time you played any LP by the band?

Happy 53rd Birthday to “Five Live Yardbirds”!!!
