Dec. 8th is a day that most Rock and Roll fans will remember. It was on this date in 1980 that John Lennon was murdered. For many Rock fans who weren’t born yet or probably to young to understand about Lennon, the day still has a major impact.

It was on Dec. 8, 2004, 24 years after Lennon was shot that Darrell Lance Abbott, also known as Diamond Darrell and Dimebag Darrell, was shot and killed while playing onstage during a Damageplan concert at the Alrosa Villa in Columbus, Ohio.. A founding member of the groove metal band Pantera, as well as Damageplan, Abbott also contributed to the record Rebel Meets Rebel, a collaboration between Pantera and David Allen Coe. Darrell is considered to be one of the driving forces behind groove metal.

He ranked 92 in Rolling Stone magazine’s 100 Greatest Guitarists and #1 in the UK magazine Metal Hammer.

RIP Darrell. Hard to believe its been 13 years already….
