The word first heard “Ch Ch Ch Ch Changes” 48 years ago today when David Bowie released his fourth LP “Hunky Dory” on Dec. 17, 1971. It was his first album on RCA, which would be his label for the next decade. The record received ‘artfull’ reviews that said things like the record has “a kaleidoscopic array of pop styles, tied together only by Bowie’s sense of vision: a sweeping, cinematic mélange of high and low art, ambiguous sexuality, kitsch, and class”.
The album has received critical acclaim since its release, and is regarded as one of the artist’s best works. Time chose it as part of their “100 best albums of all time” list in January 2010. Writer Josh Tyrangiel said that it showed Bowie’s “earthbound ambition to be a boho poet with prodigal style”.
Bowie took a book of Marlene Dietrich pictures with him when they photographed the pictures for the album cover which. You can see that the pictures influenced the cover.
Any of you still big Bowie fans?
Happy 48th Birthday to David Bowie’s “Hunky Dory” LP!!!
