Most considered Pat Boone very much a ‘white bread, milk and cookies” performer. In 1997, Pat tried to change is image to more, well, heavy metal.

He recorded an LP he called “Metal Mood: No More Mr. Nice Guy” which had covers of metal and hard rock songs.

On Jan. 27, 1997, Pat appeared on the American Music Awards wearing leathers and a studded collar to promote his album. He, along with Alice Cooper presented the award for the Favorite Heavy Metal/Hard Rock artist to Metallica. The show also featured performances by Metallica & Motley Crue, performing with Vince Neil for the first time since 1991.

The look on Alice’s face says it all. Our question for you: Do you think Pat was really serious about the LP or do you think the whole thing was just a promotion stunt? But we also realize we have to ask you, do you even remember that album?
