RINGO by LORNE GREENE

Written by on February 12, 2018

It took a lot to top The Beatles in 1964, but in Dec. of that year, Lorne Greene did it. You will probably remember Lorne from his role as Ben Cartwright on the 60’s TV show ‘Bonanza”.

If Lorne was still with us, he would have turned 105 years old today. (For our younger friends, the TV show Bonanza was a Sunday night staple in the US. Loren / Ben Cartwright was the father in this western set in ‘The Old West’ up by Carson City, NV)

In 1964, Loren released the song “Ringo” about a gunfighter in the old west. The song became popular because of Ringo Starr of The Beatles. So popular that by Dec. of that year, it was the #1 song in the country.

Happy Birthday Lorne / Ben Cartwright. For those of you who don’t remember…. here is the non Beatle ‘Ringo’…

Now how many of you remember this? And better yet, how many of you ‘older’ students had this 45?
