If Johnny Winter was still with us, he would be celebrating his 74th birthday today.

We are all familiar with Johnny’s music. We all know that he produced three Grammy Award-winning albums by Muddy Waters— Hard Again (1977), I’m Ready (1978), and Muddy “Mississippi” Waters – Live (1979). We also all know that several of Winter’s own albums were nominated for Grammy Awards — Guitar Slinger (1984) and Serious Business (1985) for Best Traditional Blues Album, and Let Me In (1991) and I’m a Bluesman (2004) for Best Contemporary Blues Album. And we know that in 2015 he won the Grammy Award for Best Blues Album for Step Back.

In 1980, we all saw when Johnny was on the cover of the first issue of Guitar World. And of course we are aware that in 1988, he was inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame.

All that and we don’t know is why he isn’t in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

We lost Johnny on July 16, 2014. He was 70 years old.

Happy Birthday Johnny. We know you are Rockin’ In Paradise.
