There can be a very good discussion about what was the first “Heavy Metal” band or record. Some this this is it, and it’s 50 years old now.

When the Billboard Charts came out on March 2, 1968, a ‘different’ version of the song “Summertime Blues” entered the chart at #89. This version was by the band Blue Cheer.

Some people thought it was just noise yet others saw where music was going.

Here is a clip of the band lip synching the song on “American Bandstand”. Do any of you remember seeing this when it first played on March 10, 1968, and if so, do you remember what your thoughts about it were?
