A member of the Country Music Hall of Fame, Waylon Jennings was born 81 years ago today on June 15, 1937.

Over the past few years we have always posted about Waylon’s birthday. And as you would expect, we have had those who have said things like “this is a Rock and Roll page, not a f’n country page” etc. Yes Waylon had a stellar career in Country Music. But he played a little Rock and Roll too. He was Buddy Holly’s bass player and was there the ‘day the music died’.

And probably just as important as his music was his attitude. Countless rockers learned a thing or two from him.

In 1997, he gave up touring to be close to his family. To set an example about the importance of education to his son “Shooter”, Jennings earned a GED at age 52.

We lost Waylon on Feb. 13, 2002. He was 64 years old. He passed away from complications of diabetes.

Happy Birthday Mr. Jennings. Love us some outlaws.
