VAN HALEN recently canceled the 31 North American tour dates it initially postponed in May.
Both singer David Lee Roth and guitarist Eddie Van Halen denied rumors that they were fighting again on the road, with fatigue and an over-ambitious schedule given as the reasons for curtailing the group's live work.
Eddie told USA Today in June that the band will resume touring in November with shows in Japan, adding, "In the New Year, we'll possibly do something special, but I can't talk about it."
Eddie also told Guitar World in a new interview that the band intends to stick around for a while, saying, "It feels more like a band and a family than it ever has . . . We're all very opinionated about things, but it's all for the benefit of the music."
The band has been supporting its new album, "A Different Kind Of Truth", VAN HALEN's first album in 14 years and first with Roth since 1984.
VAN HALEN Singer: 'The Band Is Getting Along Famously, Better Than We Have In Quite Some Time'
Sunday, 20 May 2012 15:18VAN HALEN singer David Lee Roth has released a videotaped message for the fans explaining the reasons for the postponement of 31 of the band's concerts — starting from their July 7 show at Uncasville, Connecticut's Mohegan Sun Arena through their September 25 concert at Milwaukee's Bradley Center.
Un unnamed insider close to the band told Rolling Stone that VAN HALEN's members "hate each other" and that "the band is arguing like mad. They are fighting." The magazine questioned an industry source as to why the band is, seemingly, shelving such a large amount of dates, saying: "You want to know the absolute fuckin' truth? I have no fuckin' idea." A source at the 10,000-seat Mohegan Sun Arena, where the band was scheduled to play on July 7, said: "It's selling pretty good — I don't know why they would say it's being canceled."
In the videotaped statement, which can be seen below, Roth says, "The band is getting along famously, better than we have in quite some time, and I think the shows reveal that through the miracle of YouTube. I think we're one of the few bands who relishes you bringing whatever camera — if you can carry it in and pull the trigger on it yourself, then please do. And through the eye of YouTube, you can see that we're having ourselves a hell of a time, and I think that translates into the music. As usual, we've bit off way more than we could chew when it came to scheduling. The band is winning but our schedule has been sidelined for unnecessary roughness. If we continue past July 4 and all the way into Australia and Japan, then we're asking for the robot-zombie tour when you start getting a lot of 'yes' questions. [Adopts robotic voice] 'Do you feel alright' 'Yes.' 'Are you having a good time?' 'Ahh…' You don't wanna get to that point. And we're nowhere near that point. But we're gonna take a break and we're gonna come all the way back around, because this tour is gonna take us about two years. And we're the guys who brought you KOOL & THE GANG as the ultimate and arguably left-handed top bill co-headline tour — they just went on first every night — and we have in mind a supersize monster truck rally VAN HALEN tractor pull sort of event, and we're gonna be bringing that back around for the United States as soon as we learn to speak Australian. So stay tuned and we'll see you down the road in just a little bit."
A major selling point of VAN HALEN and David Lee Roth reuniting was that all of the squabbles and musical differences that tore the band apart in the mid-'80s had been resolved — a point that Roth and Van Halen have always been quick to drive home to the public. "We really have reformed this team like a brother team that it never was before," Roth said, according to The Pulse Of Radio. "I think you hear that in my voice here, and we think we got it right this time. You come and judge the performance harshly. Please, I beg you, come on down and see." Added Eddie Van Halen: "None of us want to give you less than our best and we are at our best."
VAN HALEN's new album, "A Different Kind Of Truth", has sold 377,000 copies in the United States since its February 7 release, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

VAN HALEN's new album, "A Different Kind Of Truth", has sold 377,000 copies in the United States since its February 7 release, according to Nielsen SoundScan.
The CD is the band's first full-length offering with original singer David Lee Roth since "1984" was released in January 1984.
Roth exited the group in 1985, a year after its "1984" album was released. According to Billboard.com, "1984" spent five weeks at No. 2 on The Billboard 200 — VAN HALEN's highest charting set with Roth. (1996's "Best Of Volume 1" hits album, which included two new songs with Roth, debuted at No. 1 with 233,000 sold in its first week.)
VAN HALEN's other four other No. 1s were their four studio albums with Roth's replacement, Sammy Hagar: "5150" (1986), "OU812" (1988), "For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge" (1991) and "Balance" (1995).
VAN HALEN's previous all-new album, 1998's "Van Halen III", debuted at No. 4 on the Billboard chart and was certified gold for sales of 500,000 copies, a disappointment compared to their previous platinum efforts.
EDDIE VAN HALEN's First Meeting With RONNIE MONTROSE
Wednesday, 16 May 2012 18:46Several months before his death, the late, great Ronnie Montrose contributed to hardcover coffee table photo book, "Eddie Van Halen", by legendary rock photographer Neil Zlozower.
The Van Halen News Desk has the exclusive on the guitarist's story of meeting Eddie Van Halen.
Montrose: "The first tour I did with VAN HALEN, the bill was JOURNEY, Ronnie Montrose, and VAN HALEN was opening. I was doing my instrumental music on that tour. VAN HALEN was a young, loud, and brash band, and I liked them. Eddie came up to me backstage at soundcheck and he called me 'Mr. Montrose.' He shyly shook my hand and said, 'Mr. Montrose, I'm Edward Van Halen, and I'm a big fan. We told Ted Templeman to get the MONTROSE sound when we did our record.' He also told me they used to play 'Dancin' Feet' from one of the MONTROSE albums at their yard parties in Pasadena.
"I really enjoyed Eddie's playing. What made Eddie special was his youthful irreverence for the rules. That's what impressed me. He'd developed his own style. I think Eddie started out on drums first, and there's a very percussive nature about the way he plays. He plays very metered and percussive, and he's very fluid in that style."
The hardcover coffee table photo book "Eddie Van Halen" was released last October. It is currently is back in stock at the Van Halen Store.

Could VAN HALEN Carry On After EDDIE Retires?
Wednesday, 09 May 2012 18:00Could the band VAN HALEN carry on after guitarist and co-founder Eddie Van Halen retires? According to The Pulse Of Radio, Eddie's son, current VAN HALEN bassist Wolfgang Van Halen, seems to think it will be up to him to keep the name going. He told Esquire, "It kind of falls on my shoulders," adding that the band has plenty of material stockpiled on demos from the last three years for future albums. Wolfgang added, "I thought it would be really fun if dad and I just sat down and started jamming and see if we came up with something together, instead of him writing something and me putting my spin on it."
Wolfgang joined VAN HALEN in 2007 at the age of 16, replacing original bassist Michael Anthony.
He also told Esquire that his dad gives him plenty of responsibilities on tour, revealing, "I kind of come up with the set lists. When we've got a song that we haven't done, it's like, we should probably run through this before the show and figure out like the count of it. Because dad, for some reason, counts in odds. He'll land on three instead of four."
Wolfgang continued, "(Eddie) still, to this day, does not know the lyrics to 'Beautiful Girls'. You know how we go, 'Top of the world, beautiful girls'? He has it written down on his pedal board. On the last tour I used to have to go (mouths lyrics)."
VAN HALEN is currently on the road behind its new album, "A Different Kind Of Truth", which is the first with original singer David Lee Roth in 28 years.
The trek stops on Wednesday night (May 9) in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.

VAN HALEN Members Discuss Band's Early Days (Video)
Tuesday, 20 March 2012 18:13A 15-minute video clip in which VAN HALEN members David Lee Roth (vocals), Eddie Van Halen (guitar) and Alex Van Halen (drums) talk about the band's early days can be seen below.
VAN HALEN continues to roll out a selection of rare tracks, none of which have been played live since at least the early Eighties, on the band's current North American tour. According to The Pulse Of Radio , the latest gem to be dusted off is "Hang 'Em High" , from 1982's "Diver Down" album, which was given its first airing since probably 1983 on March 11 in Boston. Roth noted the occasion by telling the audience, "That's the first time we've played that in forever."
The band began unearthing the deep cuts right from the start of the tour last month, and so far audiences have heard tracks like "Hear About It Later" from 1981's "Fair Warning" , "The Full Bug" from "Diver Down" , "Girl Gone Bad" from 1984, plus "Women In Love" and "Outta Love Again" , both from "Van Halen II" .
Almost none of these songs have been performed by VAN HALEN since the initial tour for each of their respective albums.
According to online postings, "Take Your Whiskey Home" from "Women And Children First" is a popular choice among fans for the group to dig out next, along with "Fair Warning" cuts "Dirty Movies" and "Push Comes To Shove" , neither of which have ever been performed live.
VAN HALEN is on the road behind "A Different Kind Of Truth", its first album with Roth in 28 years.
VAN HALEN Singer Stops Manchester Show, Berates Fans For Fighting
Wednesday, 14 March 2012 18:12VAN HALEN frontman David Lee Roth stopped the band's concert earlier tonight (Tuesday, March 13) in Manchester, New Hampshire to berate fans who had been fighting in the crowd. The rock icon was doing his thing during VAN HALEN's performance of the ROY ORBISON classic "(Oh) Pretty Woman" at the Verizon Wireless Arena when he noticed some violence going down in the crowd. This did not please him.
"Knock off the fucking fighting. Fuck you!" screamed Roth to the applause of fans. "What do you think this is, a fucking mosh pit? You've got all the best-looking women on the fucking East Coast here and all you can fucking think of is fucking fighting?!?
"Ladies, I'm on your side, yeah," Dave added, to more applause.
He ended his tirade by instructing the band's drummer, Alex Van Halen, to "start it back at the top... Let's do the whole thing over again."
Fan-filmed video footage of the incident can be seen below. (Roth's rant begins around the 48-second mark.)
