He’s the friendly stranger in the black sedan, he holds on loosely and he has the ‘Eye of the Tiger”. We are talking about singer / songwriter / producer / writer and a great friend of ours, Jim Peterik who has 67 candles on his birthday cake today.
Jim’s first band (which went through a couple of names including ‘Batman and the Boy Wonders”) is still playing together 54 years after they got together. That band is The Ides of March who had the chart topping “Vehicle” back in 1970. Jim was also a founding member and the main songwriter for Survivor who you will remember for an number of hit records including “The Eye of the Tiger”. He has also written for / with .38 Special, Lynyrd Skynyrd, BlackHawk, Cheap Trick, Sammy Hagar (The Red Rocker), Cathy Richardson, Van Zant, Brian Wilson, REO Speedwagon, and The Beach Boys. He is currently fronting melodic rock band Pride of Lions, smooth-jazz project Jim Peterik’s Lifeforce, and has a regular series of yearly concert performances with an all-star cast as World Stage. He is also active as a producer and mentor to young, developing talent.
And of course the band he is the most proud of, The Ides of March, is still playing shows. If you ever get the chance to see them, well let’s just say it is required attendance for The College!!!
Happy Birthday Jim, you purple haired wonder!!!!
