He even had a check ready….

On April 24, 1976, “Saturday Night Live” producer Lorne Michaels went on air and offered The Beatles $3,000 if they would agree to reunite on the hit NBC-TV show. It was a parody of an offer that was made to the band in The New York Times.

What Lorne didn’t know was that Paul McCartney was visiting John Lennon at John’s New York apartment and they were watching the bit on TV. The two thought about going over to the show and making a surprise appearance. However, the duo decide they’re too tired.

This was also the last time that McCartney would see Lennon alive.

Do you remember seeing this when it originally aired 42 years ago tonight? > Videos > Lorne Michaels of SNL Bribes The Beatles Beatles fan site.
