The man in this picture is Dick Rowe. In the early 60’s, Dick worked for Decca Records in London. Dick is the man who famously (or infamously) decided not to sign The Beatles to a recording contract. It didn’t take long for him to realize his mistake.

On May 5, 1963, acting on a tip, Dick went to the Crawdaddy Club in England to see a new band. Within a week, Dick signed the band, The Rolling Stones to a recording contract.

The tip that he got came from The Beatles’ George Harrison.

When you think about it, if Dick had signed The Beatles, would Decca have passed on The Stones?

And do you believe in fate? Do you think The Beatles were better off by not ending up with Decca? Keep in mind that at Decca, they wouldn’t have got to work with Sir George Martin…..
