On June 13, 1980, the movie “Roadie” opened. The movie is basically about a truck driver who becomes a roadie for a traveling rock and roll show. The film stars Meat Loaf and marks his first starring role in a film. There are also cameo appearances by musicians such as Roy Orbison and Hank Williams Jr…, and supporting roles played by Alice Cooper and the members of Blondie. The film was marketed with the tagline “Bands make it rock…Roadies make it roll.”
Cheap Trick’s song “Everything Works If You Let It” was a killer in the movie.
A great line from the movie was something like, “I don’t care, just fix it” by Alice Cooper. We wonder how many stage techs have heard that in their careers?
Road crews never get the credit they deserve.
Happy 38th Birthday to the film “Roadie”!!!
