The Jimi Hendrix LP “Band of Gypsys” was released in the US on March 25, 1970. Because of the legal problems Jimi had had with his previous manager, the LP was released on Capitol Records as part of a settlement.

Due to legal wrangling by the former manager (Ed Chalpin) the album was not released in the UK for nearly two more months.
When Track Records issued it there on June 12, 1970, it quickly entered the British charts, where it remained for 30 weeks and reached number six.

It is well known that Jimi never thought it was by any means his best work. It just needed to be done. Jimi did like the version on “Machine Gun” though. Do you recall what your thoughts were when you first heard the LP? And, do you ever give it a listen any more?

Happy 48th UK Birthday to “Band of Gypsys”!!!
