Jeff Beck is celebrating his 74th birthday today. Jeff first came to fame when he was recruited by The Yardbirds to replace Eric Clapton (that says something right there and actually, the band wanted Jimmy Page but he suggested Beck, again says something). Jeff has also had his own band, The Jeff Beck Group, played in Beck, Bogert & Appice and recorded with just about everyone.
Here is an interesting piece of trivia that again shows the respect other musicians has for Jeff. Pink Floyd’s Nick Mason wrote in his autobiography, that during 1967 Pink Floyd had wanted to recruit Beck to be its guitarist after the departure of Syd Barrett but “None of us had the nerve to ask him.”
In 1969, following the death of Brian Jones, Beck was approached about joining The Rolling Stones.
When you hear the name Jeff Beck, what is the first thing you think of? For us, it The Yardbirds.
Happy Birthday Mr. Beck. (The Chancellor won’t allow us to use the name “Guitar God”)
