Styx released their “Grand Illusion” album on July 7, 1977. It was their 7th album, with 7 songs released on 7-7-77. “Grand Illusion” was the record that gave them the career boost they needed. Some people like to refer to the record as their ‘lucky 7’s’ LP. Having been around at the time, we can say for sure that if there was any luck involved, it was minimal. There was an incredibly well promotion campaign put together by the bands new promotion director, Jim Cahill. The campaign changed the way many bands would promote their product in the coming years.

Besides the promo (never use the word hype) campaign, it was an incredible record.

Do you remember the first time you heard of Styx and was it because of this record?

Happy 41sr Birthday to “Grand Illusion”!!! And yes, as we have stated on many occasions, everybody here at CRRK are huge fans with our friends in Styx!
