AC/DC released their fifth LP “Highway to Hell” on July 27, 1979 (it was their 6th LP in Australia). It was the last album featuring lead singer Bon Scott, who died early the following year on Tuesday, February 19, 1980.
Prior to this LP, the band hadn’t had much success on American radio, so the label decided the band needed a new producer. That pissed off the band as the third Young brother George had produced their previous work. The label bought in Jimi Hendrix / Led Zeppelin engineer Eddie Kramer to give the band more of a ‘radio feel’. They didn’t get along together very well and soon the band was looking for some one else. They bought in Mutt Lange to do the LP.
The album got as high as #17 on the Billboard Charts in the US.
Was this the first LP you heard by the band or were you already a fan before it?
Happy 39th Birthday to AC/DC’s LP “Highway To Hell”!!!!
What’s that joke, there’s a stairway to heaven but a highway to hell?
