Flashback to 1968: ‘Theatricality Mars Newport Pop Festival’

On Aug. 3, 1968, the 1st Newport Pop Festival began. It is said to be the first rock festival to attract of 100,000 people.

It didn’t go over well with the city fathers and a writer for the LA Times. The following was written in 1968. It is a very interesting read and a good example of how many older people looked at Rock and Roll music.

Any of you go to this festival 50 years ago today? And if so, do you remember any of it?
