January 1, 1962: Having driven all night from Liverpool, The Beatles auditioned for Decca Records in West Hampstead, London. After hearing the recordings, A&R boss at Decca, Dick Rowe decided to reject the band, saying that guitar groups were "on the way out." Instead, Rowe selected Brian Poole and The Tremeloes for a contract with the label.
