April 10, 1962: Artist Stuart Sutcliffe, the original bassist for The Beatles, died in Hamburg Germany from an aneurysm. He'd been suffering from severe headaches and blackouts for awhile; the cause of the aneurysm is unknown, although it may have been started by an earlier head injury, as he was either kicked in the head, or thrown, head first, against a brick wall when he and John Lennon were attacked after a performance in Liverpool in January 1961.
Stuart left the group in 1962 to stay in Hamburg and pursue an art career. After blacking out in an art class on April 10 he was taken to a hospital; he died in an ambulance on the way. Stuart was 22 years old.
