April 16, 1969: Elektra Records dropped the MC5 from their label after the band took out an advertisement in a Detroit underground paper that included the Elektra logo and the comment, “Fuck Hudsons.” The band was protesting the Michigan department store’s refusal to carry their debut album because of “obscene lyrics.”
