May 10, 1970: At the request of 24 year old Tricia Nixon, the daughter of President Richard Nixon, The Turtles (her favorite group) perform at Tricia's Debutante Ball at the White House. Also on the bill were The Temptations and Helen Reddy.

As Howard Kaylan of The Turtles latervwrote, "[W]e were given President Lincoln's library to use as our dressing room […] It was amazing. We were loaded — high from smoking pot back at the hotel and a wee bit tipsy from all the French champagne that was being freely dispensed — and we were roaming around the most important home in America unsupervised."

During the performance a decidedly drunk Mark Volman fell off the stage several times. President Nixon was out of the country at the time.
