August 9, 1965: A British quartet called The Silkie record the Lennon /McCartney tune, "You've Got To Hide Your Love Away". John Lennon was the producer of the session, while Paul McCartney played guitar and George Harrison kept time on a tambourine. The song would reach #28 in the UK and #10 in the US.

The group was scheduled to tour the United States in December 1965 and had even been booked to appear on both The Ed Sullivan Show and American Bandstand. But they were unable to obtain the necessary visas and work permits, so their tour was subsequently cancelled. Two further singles released in 1966 failed to make either the UK or the US charts, and in the autumn of '66 the group split.
