June 29, 1957: Buddy Holly and the Crickets record "Peggy Sue" at the Petty Studios in Clovis, New Mexico. The song was originally called "Cindy Lou", named for Buddy's niece, but was later changed to "Peggy Sue" in reference to the girlfriend of Crickets' drummer Jerry Allison. When its released as a single it would be credited to only Buddy Holly; it would peak at #3 on the Billboard charts.
