September 20, 1976: The Punk Rock scene in London received a serious boost in popularity with the beginning of the two day Punk Festival at the 100 Club.
Eight bands would be featured over the two day event; on tonight's bill were Subway Sect, The Clash, Siouxsie and The Banshees (making their debut, with Sid Vicious on drums) and Sex Pistols.
The next night saw performances by Stinky Toys (from France) Chris Spedding & The Vibrators, The Damned and Buzzcocks.
About 1000 people attended the two shows, many of whom go on to start their own band, including Shane McGowan of The Pogues and Chrissie Hynde of The Pretenders.
