April 12, 1954: Bill Haley and The Comets recorded “Rock Around the Clock” at Pythian Temple studios in New York City. Considered by many to be the song that put Rock and Roll on the map around the world, the song would be used over the opening titles of the film “Blackboard Jungle” the following year. It went on to be a #1 record, with worldwide sales of over 25 million.
