April 20, 1992: The Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert for AIDS Awareness was held at London’s Wembley Stadium in London. Over 72,000 people attended the concert, which featured performances from the surviving members of Queen, Def Leppard, Guns N’ Roses and Metallica, along with guests such as Roger Daltrey, Robert Plant, Tony Iommi, Elton John, David Bowie, Annie Lennox, George Michael, Ian Hunter and Mick Ronson. Freddie Mercury had died from AIDS the previous November.
