The Beach Boys – Do It Again (1969)

May 3, 1968: The Beach Boys began a tour of the US with a concert at the Washington Coliseum in Washington D.C. The second half of the program featured the Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, who lectured the audience on “spiritual regeneration.” The tour was the brainchild of the group’s singer, Mike Love, who’d become a devotee of Maharishi when he visited the guru’s ashram in India with the Beatles earlier in the year.
The tour was a commercial and artistic failure; Twenty-nine concerts were originally scheduled, many of them in college venues, but the venture was abandoned after only five shows because of low ticket sales and hostile audience reaction to the Maharishi’s lectures.
