The Beatles – Nowhere Man

Written by on June 30, 2021

June 30, 1966: During their last world tour, The Beatles played the first of three concerts at the Nippon Budokan Hall in Tokyo, Japan. Their arrival in Tokyo had been met with protests against them for bringing a “western” non-traditional influence to the youth of Japan. People were also displeased with the band playing Rock N Roll music in a holy shrine dedicated to traditional martial arts.

There was a strict police presence at the concerts, with 3,000 police observing each show, played in front of 10,000 people. Fans could scream but standing during the concerts was strictly forbidden.

It would be the only time The Beatles would play in Tokyo.
