Jesus – John Lennon Controversy (Part 3 of 4)

August 13, 1966: The Beatles are touring the US and the hysteria over Lennon’s “Jesus” comments continues. A Longview, Texas radio station KLUE organized the first of the “Beatles bonfires,” where ex-Beatle fans can burn the band’s records in protest of John’s comment. Irony: the station’s radio tower was struck the next morning by lightning, throwing the station off the air.

Meanwhile, Reverend Thurman H. Babbs of the New Haven Baptist Church calls for the excommunication of all Beatles fans.
