November 5, 1977: The manager of the Virgin Record store in Nottingham, England was arrested for displaying a large poster advertising the new album, “Never Mind The Bollocks, Here’s The Sex Pistols.” He was arrested on charges of indecency because of the word “bollocks” on the album’s cover.
Many stores across the country refused to carry the album after police warned them that they could be fined under the the UK’s “Indecent Advertising Act” of 1889.
