Major Upgrades! Yeah baby, yeah!

You have likely already noticed the difference. It’s even cleaner and louder than before. That’s because after years of testing the brand new version of the streaming software that runs the entire station was finally released for production use. As we had been testing it for months ourselves we were able to immediately implement this on the main server and will be upgrading our secondary servers over the next two weeks. This allows us to stream in multiple formats, way higher bitrates and even stream completely uncompressed, unmolested digital audio and video.

The other upgrade came from having the hosting company where our main operations server was at developing problems severe enough that we had to cut ties and return to an old provider we had used in the past. This ended up being a gift because again… the new server OS is brand new and rock solid. We were able to specifically tune it for the streaming side of things to help with buffering, stability and things that help prevent connection losses. The audio is processed differently using current versions of the needed audio codecs.

The third will happen soon which is swapping out an older type copper wire internet connection with a direct to the studio fiber connection which the station connections will stream from which will be combined with our existing Spectrum connection which will run as a failsafe connection.
